Blood donation saves lives.
As a doula, I have seen first hand the life saving effects of blood donation. Sometimes mothers need blood after birth; sometimes newborns need it.
Most births are safe and this is not necessary most of the time. But Blood Drives are a cause close to my heart, so I am excited to launch the first of what will be an annual Safe & Sound Births Blood Drive in honor of Mothers.
What I love about donating directly to the hospital is that they do not have to buy the blood. A 2019 survey found the average price of blood was $215 per unit of red blood cells paid to the Red Cross. This charge is mitigated when you donate directly in the Blood Mobile to AAMC.
Partners of birthing women, it's your chance to give back for all that they are doing to bring your babies here.
Eligible donors range in age from 16 to 79 years old.
When you give blood, you give another birthday, another anniversary, another day at the beach, another night under the stars, another talk with a friend, another laugh, another hug, another chance.
